This article details how to configure Outlets where Tasting Menus are on offer and the kitchen wishes for preparation checks to be printed as per the menu.
Outlet Configuration
Within Configuration > Outlets > Configuration the Check Layout field must be set to Tasting Menu
Configuration of the Tasting Menu Items
Firstly the individual dishes of the menu must be created as items (please click here for a guide on creating items). When loading the menu item, the Menu Part check box must be ticked:
Where a course has an option then this option can be loaded in the usual way via the Options tab. Please note where the option has an additional cost, this is not supported in this mode and the dish should be loaded as an individual item
Once all items have been loaded, the item for the Tasting must be created. It is this item which will be used to create the button on the POS and is called the Master Item. When loading the item please ensure the Type field is set to Menu
Once the Tasting Menu has been created the individual dishes making up the menu must be attached to this item under the Menus tab. Please note the # column defines the order of the dishes and must be completed to ensure the dishes print in the correct order on preparation checks. The Group field must also be completed with the sales group the master item belongs to.
Finally the Master Item must be assigned to a POS in the way any item would be created via the POS tab. The standard price of the menu should be detailed here. Any additional courses or dishes with supplements should be loaded as individual menu items with relevant pricing detailed in the Price field. When selected this price will be added to the standard price of the menu
The printing destination of Tasting Menus is defined via the settings of the Sales Group. Please click here for further information on configuring Preparation Points
Use on the POS
On the next loading of the POS, the new Master Item will appear as detailed. Once pressed the following menu will appear. The number of Tasting Menus required is automatically matched to the Covers detailed against the table, however this can be adjusted (e.g. on a table of 2 one guest is having the regular tasting menu and the other the vegetarian option). To confirm, the Courses button should be pressed followed by the >> button
In this initial example, both guests are dining from the same menu option with no changes. The items will be loaded automatically to the right hand window. Any dishes with additional costs will have this cost detailed (highlighted in blue)
As always it is possible to delete any item from the right hand window by selecting it and pressing the Void button. As such we recommend that menus are loaded with all additional courses with relevant costs and if not taken removed when creating the order
Prep check format
On pressing Save the preparation checks are generated and sent to the designated printers. The menu chosen is at the head of the prep check with the individual courses detailed below. As both guests are having the same menu without substitutions the order is group together to make a shorter check which is easier to read
Where options are utilised
To apply an option to a specific course, the relevant course should be selected and the green Options button pressed. Either custom options can be applied or by pressing the Exit button the options loaded against the item can be selected. Once complete the >> button should be pressed to follow the path above.
In this instance, the course with the option would be de-group on the preparation check
It is also possible to apply an option to a Master Item however please note this will not be reflected on every dish within the menu so it is not advised as best practice
Use of two different Tasting Menus
Using an example of a table of two where one guest is having the Regular Menu and the other the Vegetarian alternative. In this instance the individual courses are ordered in sync unless the courses match where they will remain grouped
Where Sides are ordered
Where additional items are placed on the same preparation check these will print below the Tasting Menu and items
