How to Manage Waste for Stock

At the end of this article you will be able to;

Set up a wastage folio
Understand how to post wastage through the POS
Understand how to transfer wastage from one store to another.

There are two options for managing wastage, one option is to manage this through the POS the second option is to manage this through transferring wastage from one store to a wastage store.

Option one

This section will explain how to set up a wastage folio which will allow a POS user to create a POS order and post this to a wastage folio via the HOUSE payment button on the POS.

NOTE: this will be posted as selling cost not buying cost. However this is excluded from revenue.

Set up the wastage folio

Navigate to Financials > Sales ledger and free type a name for the account and any other relevant details.

NOTE: you may already have an account set up that you can use where you only need to add a folio.

Navigate to the folio tab and by right-clicking and adding an entry add in the new folio.

ID: this will automatically be generated when you save the folio
Folio name: free type the folio name
Balance: this will automatically fill in once you start sending orders to the folio
Unit: choose the unit if applicable from the drop-down box
Receipt: leave blank
Limit: leave blank
Active: tick here to make the folio active
Revenue: untick here to ensure that the revenue posted here is not included in revenue.
POS: tick here to make the folio available on the POS

Next, navigate to the Details tab and ensure you have the credit status as granted.

Your sales ledger is now set up.

Paying the wastage off to the wastage folio.

The user creates an order as usual for the wastage and presses the house button in the payment screen, this brings up all folios that are not included in revenue and visual to the POS. The user then posts the order to the wastage folio.

Option two

Manging wastage through transferring of Stock.

This section will explain how to manage wastage by creating a wastage store and transferring wastage stock from one store to another

NOTE: you can not transfer glasses of wine through the transferring of stock.

Create a store for your wastage by navigating to Configuration > Materials, please see our article on creating a store.

When you have any wastage navigate to Materials > Transfer and transfer your wastage item to the wastage store. Please see our article on transferring stock. You can then manage the wastage store as per your stock procedure.
