By the end of this training article, you will be able to:

  •  enter barcode against your items in Hart
  •  print label with the bar codes items from Hart

In order to enter barcodes to your property’s items, by scanning their barcode with the barcode

scanner, you will need to follow the steps below:

First, install a barcode scanner. Now open an empty Notepad document and scan a barcode, if some alphanumerical information appears on your notepad you know the set-up was successful.

To add the barcodes to each individual item, go to Materials > Items, search for the desired item and place your cursor inside the Barcode field or key in the serial number appearing on the notepad (we recommend the first option to avoid mistakes).

To test this please open your Hart POS and scan one of the items, this should now be added to your order.

HART PMS also gives you the opportunity to set up and print barcode labels from your items!

Make sure all bar codes have been added to the items as described above. Next check that the barcode font exists inside the Fonts folder of your computer. This can be found in My Computer/C/Windows/Fonts, if not this font can be downloaded from

Configuration > Access > Labels

Before entering this information check the box the labels are delivered in, this will give you the information you must enter the Label tab.

Now right-click and add entry and enter the Name of the label sheethow many columns in Cols, the number of Rows, the Height of each label, the Width of each label, the Top Margin, the Bottom margin, the Left margin and the Right margin. Do not forget to add the Cols spacing and the Rows spacing.

All dimensions are counted in centimetres. Entering these margins ensure that the printer can print the labels properly.

Reports > Point of Sales > Barcodes

There are three different ways to search for the item you wish to make the barcode for. If you were in a shop and you needed to create bar codes for the new sales group you have created, you might search under pos. However, if you just needed to reprint a bar code for one item you might look under the item name.

At the top of this report select the search criteria for the labels you would like to print.

If printing out labels to use in your restaurant or shop, select POS. Now choose for which outlet and item group you wish to print labels for. Label printout must be ticked if these should be printed out.

The #Copies tab is used to determine how many copies of these labels on barcodes are printed.

Use Filter Selected to filter down the items and Reset Filter to clear the filter.

If printing out labels to use for stocktaking, select Stocktake. Now choose for which outlet and item group you wish to print labels for. Label printout must be ticked if these should be oriented out. The #Copies tab is used to determine how many copies of these labels on barcodes are printed.

Use Filter Selected to filter down the items and Reset Filter to clear the filter.

Selecting Item will list all items barcodes entered to the system, from here only one label for one item can be printed.
