By the end of this article you will be able to;
- Create a new derived rate plan
- Syncing the derived rate plan
- Have some helpful hints and tips
There may be circumstances where you may wish to link rate plans. For example, you may have an existing rate plan and wish to create a new plan with a 10% discount such as an advance purchase rate. An easy way to create and manage these types of rate plans is by creating a derived rate plan.
The main rate plan is called a Master rate plan and the linked rate plan is a Derived one. The derived rate plan operates more in a read-only mode and will react to the changes that take plan on the Master rate plan.
Before reading this article please ensure that you are proficient in creating rate plans. If not please see the article on creating rate plans.
To Create a Derived Rate Plan
Navigate to Sales > Rate plans > Bedrooms and search for the rate plan that will be your master rate plan, either by double-clicking inside the rate plan field or by using the search function. Press copy on the left-hand side and the rate copy screen appears.
In the bottom window, fill in the details for the derived rate plan.
- Code: free type a new code for the rate plan.
- Name: free type your derived rate plan name.
- Package: choose your package from the drop-down box
- Discount: add in the discount amount that you wish to your rates.
- Amount: tick here if the prices are to be an amount off rather than a discount %.
- Derived: tick here to make the new rate plan a derived one.
Press the copy button and your derived rate will be created.
NOTE: You have the option to choose a different package for your derived rate if you wish to manage your rate plan in this way. We do however recommend having the same package as the master rate plan |
If the derived rate has a different package you need to add in your service charges.
NOTE: You cannot change a package on an existing derived rate plan, this must be a newly created derived rate plan. Otherwise, all your existing bookings will be changed. |
Syncing the derived rate plan
If you have made some changes to your master rate plan for example adding a new room type and this has not correctly filtered down to your derived rate you will need to run a sync.
Press the derived button in the master rate plan and the derived rate options window appears.
Tick either all derived rates or select the rate plan(s)that you need to sync and press the set button, this should pull any changes through.
Helpful Hints and Tips
To see any derived rates that are linked to a rate plan navigate to the Derived tab when in your master rate. If you double click on the derived rate plan, the derived rate plan will open.
When in a derived rate plan, you will see the Master rate plan showing in the master field along with the discount % or amount. If you double click in the master field this will take you to the master rate plan.
- We do not recommend that you link an existing rate plan to a master rate plan to make it derived as this will alter the existing rate plan. You should create a new derived rate plan as detailed above.
- The derived rate operates more in a Read-Only mode and reacts to all the changes that take place on the Master Rate.
- If you have a different package you can change your services.
- When you change any accommodation prices on a master rate plan this will change on the derived rate plan.
- You can not change any prices, days, room types on a derived rate plan.
- You can manage a derived rate via a different revenue group to your master rate plan.
- Restrictions can be set to either rate plan.
